It may have begun as a simple haircut, but a recent employee event that turned into a fundraiser has netted $1,830 for the Fannin County Children’s Center in Bonham.

The fundraiser was organized by the Richardson, Texas employees of Adolfson & Peterson Construction in conjunction with its annual family picnic. The event actually began as some good-natured kidding about project engineer Travis Thompson’s need for a haircut. One thing led to another, and before long Travis’ haircut had become an event worthy of a fundraising drive.

In the days leading up to the haircut employees donated a total of $915, and A&P matched the employee donations for a total of $1,830. Travis then took center stage at the family picnic for the much-anticipated haircut event, and barely even winced as his curly locks were shorn into a mullet.

The event definitely offered some lighthearted fun, but behind it was a genuine desire to help. “A&P wants to stay in touch with the community,” says Terry Loreth, Vice President of Operations for A&P, and a resident of Fannin County. “It was a great reason to help the children’s center and have some fun at the same time. We want to help the community whenever we see the need.”

Last spring, when a Dallas-area school district wanted to pass along some school equipment it no longer needed, Terry and other A&P employees helped organize a shipment of those items to two area school districts. Bonham ISD received textbooks and four portable classrooms while Savoy ISD received desks and lockers.

Terry adds that as a company, A&P has always emphasized the importance of giving back. “The A&P culture encourages us to be good stewards of our communities.”
