YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties started construction on the 85,800-square foot Haselwood Family YMCA in Silverdale. Completion is expected next summer.
The YMCA will be the first occupant of the 12-acre Central Kitsap Community Campus that will eventually offer several types of recreational and cultural activities.
The YMCA will have an aquatics center, wellness center, exercise and multipurpose rooms, youth drop-in center, gym, community meeting rooms and a nursery. The facility was originally planned to be between 50,000 and 70,000 square feet, but fundraising efforts allowed for a larger project.
Rushforth Construction Co., the general contractor, is using building information modeling to maximize construction efficiency.
The building was modeled after the 77,000-square foot Gig Harbor YMCA, which Rushforth built in 2007.
BCRA is the architect and civil engineer, with AHBL as structural engineer. Both firms are based in Tacoma. Rushforth, also headquartered in Tacoma, is a subsidiary of Adolfson & Peterson Construction.
