A&P's Pacific Northwest region (Rushforth Construction) awarded ABC Platinum award for safety

07/26/2010

Tacoma, Washington—July 26, 2010—Rushforth Construction has been awarded a 2010 STEP Platinum award for safety from the Western Washington chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC).

The STEP (Safety Training and Evaluation Process) program was designed to give contractors a method to develop and measure safety programs. The platinum-level award is a major recognition of Rushforth’s ongoing efforts in developing an effective safety program. To earn a platinum-level award companies must have a recordable incident rate (RIR) of 3.3, which represents the number of injuries and illnesses per 200,000 hours worked. Rushforth’s RIR was 1.75 in 2009, and is currently 0.0 for 2010.

The award is the result of Rushforth’s proactive “zero-injury” safety program, which is based on the philosophy that job-related accidents and injuries are preventable. The safety program includes a full range of ongoing initiatives, including training for new employees, job site-specific safety programs, weekly toolbox meetings, and regular safety audits.
